A lucky Sunday Times reader was the recipient of a Blessing Ngobeni original artwork which had been inserted at random into the paper’s print run of approximately 170 000 copies. On a Saturday night in May the printing press was stopped to allow acclaimed artist Ngobeni to personally insert his work into one of the newspapers after which the print run continued.
Standard Bank in partnership with the Sunday Times and Ngobeni offered readers this one-off opportunity to find a valuable work inside a newspaper.
The initiative was aimed at encouraging greater public interest in the cultural and commercial value of South Africa’s art industry.
