The Auction season begins

Despite the economic doom and gloom, a series of fine art auctions in South Africa and abroad, suggest a continued growth in this niche. Throughout 2011, South African Auction houses held fine art, antiques and collectables auctions reaping positive rewards, contributing to a robust art market in South Africa.  Records were set locally and in London for the South African masters and for the collectors. As we commence this year, the art aficionados can look forward to the following auctions in the first quarter:

  •  Strauss & Co. Cape Town: 6th February
  •  Stephan Welz & Co: Cape Town: 21st and 22nd February
  •  5th Avenue Auctioneers: Johannesburg:  12th February
  •  Bernardis: Pretoria: 27th February 2012
  •  Russel Kaplan: Johannesburg: 17th and 18th February
  •  Ashbey’s Galleries: Cape Town: 23rd February
  •  Rudd’s Auctioneers & Appraisers:  Cape Town: 14th February
  •  Bonhams: The South African Sale: 21st March
